Be Still and Know

Everyone has a number. You’re half asleep and it is the middle of the night but you roll over to look at the clock and you’ve noticed for the last 3 nights, 3:15 lit up in bright green. You struggle to fall back asleep and think, ‘what the heck is up with this wake up time?!’

Maybe it isn’t you, maybe it is God. We spend a lot of time filling our daytime with busyness. School, work, kids, dinner, laundry, cleaning, church, helping a friend, driving, etc. We can justify some of our busyness as good stuff but it’s still busy. I spend a good portion of my morning juggling between my Woven Writing and getting the kids breakfast while I half get myself ready for the day all while trying to drink my full cup of coffee before it’s considered too cold to be tolerable.

What is happening at 3:15am every morning? Nothing. You have nothing on your schedule except sleep. God sees this moment as the perfect opportunity to get to you. He just wants you to listen. You don’t even need to say anything back, just be still and listen. These moments are perfect for really soaking up who He is and how much He loves you.

The next time you see your number pop up on that green lit alarm clock sitting on your dresser, for the 4th day in a row, let God know you’re awake and ready to listen to what He’s been trying to tell you. If you’re like me, you’ll probably forget what you two talked about so keep a notebook and pen handy so you can jot down a few of the things so you’ll remember in the morning.

I consider this one of my favorite times, except for when I’m driving alone with the radio off, to talk to God and listen to what He has in store for me.
